Account Officer-Procurement & Management Accounts

Job Summary:

The Accounts Officer is responsible for providing accurate and timely accounting and financial support across Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), Procurement, and Management Accounts. The role will support the effective management of financial transactions, reconciliations, reporting, procurement activities, and day-to-day accounting operations while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • Prepare and issue customer invoices and statements.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on overdue accounts.
  • Process customer payments and allocate receipts accurately.
  • Perform customer account reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate AR records and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with credit control and collection activities.
  • Accounts Payable (AP)
  • Process supplier invoices, payment requests, and supporting documentation.
  • Verify invoices against purchase orders, goods received notes, and approved documentation.
  • Maintain accurate supplier accounts and perform supplier reconciliations.
  • Prepare payment schedules and assist with payment processing.
  • Monitor outstanding payables and resolve invoice discrepancies.
  • Ensure invoices are properly coded and allocated to the appropriate accounts and cost centers.

Procurement:

  • Assist with purchasing and procurement activities in accordance with company policies.
  • Obtain and compare supplier quotations.
  • Prepare purchase orders and maintain procurement records.
  • Liaise with suppliers regarding orders, pricing, deliveries, and invoices.
  • Monitor outstanding purchase orders and ensure proper documentation is maintained.
  • Support cost control and ensure purchases are appropriately approved.

Management Accounts & Financial Reporting:

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports.
  • Prepare account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for management reporting.
  • Assist with analysis of income, expenditure, variances, and cost center’s.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and provide information required by management and auditors.

General Accounting & Administration:

  • Maintain organized and accurate accounting records and filing systems.
  • Assist with audit requests and provide supporting documentation as required.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and applicable statutory requirements.
  • Provide general accounting and administrative support to the Finance Department.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and company information.
  • Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned.

Education & Professional Qualifications:

Professional Certification: Holder of or a recognized professional accounting designation such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or local equivalent certified by the Surinamese Vereniging van Accountants (SVA).

Language Proficiency: Full professional proficiency in Dutch (written and spoken) for local statutory reporting, tax filings, and stakeholder communication, alongside strong proficiency in English for international corporate reporting and multinational operations.

Professional Experience:

General Experience: 4 to 7 years of progressive experience in corporate accounting, financial controlling, or financial management, with at least 3 years specializing specifically in management accounting, budgeting, and variance analysis.

Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrated hands-on experience complying with Surinamese fiscal frameworks, including corporate income tax regulations, Value Added Tax (VAT / Omzetbelasting variants), and reporting standards set by the Centrale Bank van Suriname (CBvS).

Technical Skills & Competencies:

Financial Modeling & Planning: Advanced budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial modeling capabilities to assist leadership in strategic decision-making.

ERP & Software Proficiency: Advanced mastery of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) and advanced data analytics tools/Excel modeling.

Cost Accounting: Strong capability in standard costing, cost-benefit analysis, inventory valuation, and operational efficiency auditing.

Analytical Mindset: Exceptional ability to interpret dense financial datasets and translate numbers into clear, actionable business insights for non-financial executives.

Integrity & Compliance: High ethical standards regarding confidentiality, internal controls, and corporate governance.

Cross-Cultural Communication: Ability to communicate effectively across diverse local and international teams operating within Suriname’s multicultural corporate landscape.
